Join us for an afternoon pop-up art exhibit featuring a photo documentary series and participatory studio session that invites attendees to trace the histories and chart new futures rooted in LGBTQ+ activism to decriminalize, de-stigmatize, and enact reparations in cannabis. Organized by The Social Impact Center.
The Social Impact Center ("SIC") will be making history in October 2023 with the inaugural public exhibition of LGBTQ+ cannabis histories in the US. The most extensive LGBTQ+ archives around the globe, ONE Archives Foundation, has selected SIC’s "Coming Out Green '' to be highlighted at Circa Queer Histories Festival. Celebrating 7 decades of the ONE movement, Circa is the first and only LGBTQ+ history festival in the United States, sure to attract high-profile media. Coming Out Green will celebrate the legacy and emerging LGBTQ+ influencers and innovators in cannabis via a documentary photo installation, dynamic activations, and consumption space.
Our Coming Out Green Workshop at Creating Change is facilitated by our Youth Fellowship. We offer space to craft our canna-stories and understand the relationship to oppressive forces like the war on drugs and bigger visions for justice. The zine is a tool to strategize how to safely put these stories into action in diverse organizing and mutual care towards collective liberation.
Our annual holiday event is an all inclusive Queer & Trans that allows individuals to be free and express their creativity, talent, and love for one another as we address, advocate, and come together to support our most vulnerable LGBTQ+ community members. This brave space event offers an opportunity to our LGBTQ+ members of the valley to celebrate with their chosen family and community.
Our liberation owes a huge debt of gratitude to the Civil Rights movement as Pride started as a riot and revolution. Without Black and trans leaders we would not be where we are today. Through a multimedia education and storytelling campaign, we share stories of the revolutionaries who changed the narrative for our collective freedoms.
Our workshop to spread knowledge regarding Anti-Discrimination Laws in California and across the nation and ways to improve mental health within groups of local organizers, students, and change makers. “We need to be talking about these figures throughout the year because my teachers only talk about them once a year,” said Christy, Burbank student.
From 2020-2022, We collaborated with Somos Familia Valle and SFV Pride committee to bring our grassroots Pride. The inclusive event offered live performances, a healing and wellness tent, art installations, poetry, interactive art marking, drag show performances, vogue balls, networking, a local vendor marketplace, and a community resource fair desperately needed for our community.
